TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Shooting Format
DVC PRO
It's amazing what you can get when you put your mind to it! We recently made a deal to shoot with the high-end format DVC-PRO from Panasonic. For those that don't know, DVC-PRO is a digital format with incredibly high resolution. The camera we will be using runs about $20000 and interestingly enough is (according to the serial number on the camera) only the fourth one ever created in Canada! This is definately cool news for CGIS!
S-VHS (backup plan)
S-VHS is a higher quality format than conventional VHS. The technology is similar in that an S-VHS machine can record and play back both S-VHS and standard VHS tapes, though standard VHS machines can not handle the higher format. The benefit to the S-VHS format is a much higher resolution (400 lines, compared to VHS's 240 lines). Also, the equipment is available to us for free.

Editing Format
MiroVideo DC30+, Adobe Premiere 4.2
The company responsible for the Cool Guys In Space project recently purchased a computer-based editing system, which is going to be instrumental in the creation of the finished movie! The system also includes several high-end utilities for audio editing and post production, and so the project becomes more and more possible every day! Until recently, many major issues regarding the possibility of completing the project existed. Now, it is not only possible to finish the project, it is very likely due to the high interest of the crew and everyone involved!

Program Length
Approx. 45 minutes
Normally we assume that each page of the script constitutes one minute of screen time in the finished film. Since the screenplay is 45 pages, it can be assumed that the finished product will be 45 minutes. Of course, there is always room to slide things one way or the other. As a side note, the project has been written as a pilot for a television series, and may therefore conform to the 48-minute television hour, which includes 12 minutes of commercial time. The extra time in the final version may be filled with promotional material for upcoming movies, episodes, or commercials produced for the benefit of businesses that have donated products or services to the project.
NOTE: Businesses donating to the project will also be given credit within the production, just as independant investors will receive. It is currently undecided how the 12 minutes will be divided, but it will most likely be grouped at the end of the production to allow for continuous uninterupted viewing of the movie.

This 'CGIS' project is in the early stages of production, but it is moving quite quickly. More information will follow..
